Logon, log on karo!

MEDHA SHRI, TNN 11 April 2009, 12:00am IST

Bhaiyon aur behenon, here’s a breather for all you bold and beautiful young people who’re sick and tired of having opinions, and having our netas – Logon, log on karo!
our representatives in parliament – represent none of them at all.

That’s why, here’s your chance to participate in policy making, get involved in intelligent discussion, and understand the nuances of governance in a democratic setup. TOI’s Lead India campaign, in a bid to give a non-political ‘political’ platform to those who want to be part of the electoral process, has come up with an innovative solution – a Youth Parliament – where those who’re young and young at heart can propose policies, float bills and make laws in a really democratic manner. It’s simple – all you have to do is log on to www.lead .

timesofindia.com, click on Youth Parliament, become a member – and by becoming a member, you become an MP. Then, you can vote on bills already floated by other MPs, float your own – basically, step into the shoes of an MP and draw attention to the things you think need to be changed in our laws.
This is a chance to show real MPs how it’s done, if you don’t like the way they work. Here are some of the things that our MPs count as the USPs of the Lead India Youth Parliament:

You don’t have to be senile or hard of hearing to be an MP in the Youth Parliament. It’s a place for people with a sound mind in a sound body.
You don’t have to be stinking rich and tempt fellow MPs by waving bundles of money at them.
You needn’t waste your oratory skills on debating over whose arms will be cut off or who’s whose saala. Utilise the gift of the gab to advocate your bill – or even others’.
The Lead India Youth Parliament is no akhaada, where you need to shout or lift and fling furniture around to convince others.
You don’t have to flood people with TVs or reservations or money or build/destroy temples and mosques or make false promises to win elections and become an MP – all you have to do is log on to lead.timesofindia.com and register for the Youth Parliament.

This parliament is for the people, by the people and of the people!

Go on, enter the cyber sabha!
